Honeywell Space Flight Simulator 1964

A spherical air bearing built by Professional Instruments Company supports a 9-ton, free-floating platform. Control systems for the Project Apollo moonship were developed and tested on the simulator.

We machined the 17” diameter stainless steel sphere (shown with its air bearing cup) to less than 10 microinches sphericity. Our early air bearing spindles were crucial parts of the special gaging we built for this project.
